Advocating for Small Towns
Understanding small towns in Ireland is to understand the delicate connection between several factors such as the local library, the social and cultural life of the town, how businesses are sustained there, how estates are planned and connected, the availability of services to vulnerable people and many other facilities.
The recent announcement by Minister Humphreys 9th August 2016 of a special budget for a nationwide Rural Town and Village Revewal Scheme represents a step forward and an opportunity to plan ahead and revitalise communities across the country. Of course towns and regions need multiples of this investment. However, right now local communities have a practical if modest opportunity to avail of new funds.
Residents in small towns can now look at different ways of organising, ways to combine small scale services into more effective and more viable facilities for everyone. My own experience includes award winning regeneration of towns through partnership and inward investment. See Award Winning Regeneration below. You can also read my regeneration blogs on this site.
